This movie shows a soldering iron in near infrared using a sony DSC-W290 compact camera with IR blocking filter replaced by IR passfilter (not sure, I think 850 nm).
I shot the movie with automatic lighting, VGA, 0EV, Auto white balance.
The soldering iron was set at maximum temperature of 450 degrees celcius.
I was amazed by the result! Wow, never thought these CCD's were so sensitive for near infrared.
By the way, this camera have 3200 iso so relative sensitive.
This effect was not visible for the naked eye! I was only ably to "see" the heat through the LCD of the camera.
Metal starts to glow for human eyes at around 700 to 800 degrees celcius
